So what do you do when your guest’s hot soup is cold when it arrives at the Dining Room Table? On a Parmalee Dorhmann’s invoice, she purchased 6 Haviland sugar bowls (if you know Haviland their 2-handled sugar bowls are quite large). The large Haviland sugar bowls hold about 2 cups with lids & Mrs. Huntington purchased 6 of them. With the lid on the sugar bowl it is quite stunning on her tablescape, a surprise for her guests & they look super cute!! There was also evidence of seasonal-themed plateware in the Huntington entertaining on the invoices of Parmalee Dorhmann downtown Los Angeles, CA . The Dining Room table was surrounded by Chippendale chairs with “Royal 2-Tone green velvet” cushion; 30 chairs in all, in the dining room & hallways.

In 1903, Henry E. Huntington (1850–1927) purchased the San Marino Ranch, a working ranch about 12 miles from downtown Los Angeles with citrus groves, nut and fruit orchards, alfalfa crops, a small herd of cows, and poultry. His superintendent, William Hertrich (1878–1966), was instrumental in developing the various plant collections that make up the foundation of The Huntington’s Botanical Gardens. The property—originally nearly 600 acres—today covers 207 acres, 130 of which are open to visitors. The multi-course Huntington dinners were composed of 6-8 courses (SMR) – maybe more. In the 1890’s, in the San Francisco Mansion & her New York Mansio, Mrs. Arabella Huntington’s Gilded Age dinners were course formal dinner menus.

Officials from Laguna Hills and Rancho Santa Margarita did not respond to requests for comment. Neither city has the proposed outreach program on city council agendas as of Friday. Mercy House also contracts with other South County cities, including Rancho Santa Margarita, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel; they will all lose outreach services as well. Even though the outreach services will be discontinued, Mercy House still plans to stay “super active” in the area by assisting in shelters and housing, Haynes said. In this past year, Haynes said that the nonprofit has housed more than 500 individuals in the south Orange County area.

Mercy House, a non-profit that provides housing and support services for unhoused individuals, will discontinue outreach services in south Orange County at the end of June. However, the nonprofit will still provide housing and shelter assistance throughout the area. Mission Viejo is looking for new ways to expand its homeless outreach initiatives once longtime partner Mercy House pulls back this summer.
Pedraza is a Cudahy resident, and his identity was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. About four miles away and 12 minutes later, a 14-year-old boy was killed outside Ellen Ochoa Learning Center in the 5000 block of Live Oak Street in Cudahy. He and another boy who had been shot were found by deputies who responded after reports of gunfire in the area. Paramedics were called to treat the teens, but Pedraza died at the scene. The shooting deaths occurred within a five-mile radius in the space of a few hours in the cities of Huntington Park, Bell, Cudahy and Los Angeles, according to homicide investigators.
In the last year, Pedraza had started associating with a new crowd, Aguirre said. Sometimes he’d come out for a late-night cigarette and see Pedraza hanging out in the street with them. Gamaliel Aguirre, who lives across from the small house in Cudahy where Pedraza lived with his mother, recalled the boy as a quiet kid who used to play soccer with Aguirre’s nephew in their cul-de-sac. Bell Mayor Fidencio Gallardo said that city residents and those from surrounding communities “can feel safe once again” and encouraged students to return to school.
The Huntingtons would usually have formal multi-course dinners with 6-8 courses – sometimes these dinners took 2 hours. Chocolate bonbons (probably served in the Large Drawing Room) with poetry or book reading or musicale or bridge. One of the Huntington's most botanically important gardens, the Desert Garden brings together a plant group largely unknown and unappreciated in the beginning of the 1900s.
On 12 acres (4.9 ha) at the northwest corner of the Huntington, the garden features man-made lakes ("Pond of Reflected Greenery" and "Lake of Reflected Fragrance") with pavilions connected by bridges. Unique Chinese names are assigned to many of the facilities in the garden, such as the tea house, known as the "Hall of the Jade Camellia". Other pavilions are the "Love for the Lotus Pavilion", "Terrace of the Jade Mirror", and "Pavilion of the Three Friends". The European collection, consisting largely of 18th- and 19th-century British & French paintings, sculptures and decorative arts, is housed in The Huntington Art Gallery, the original Huntington residence. Some of the best known works in the European collection include The Blue Boy by Thomas Gainsborough, Pinkie by Thomas Lawrence, and Madonna and Child by Rogier van der Weyden.
